The seven-part Chilean documentary series "Jornada Antártica" (Antarctic Journey) received First Honorable Mention at the Córdoba International Documentary Film Festival (FICDCOR). The Chilean film, directed by Jorge López Sotomayor and produced and hosted by Paola Lértora Bavestrello, chronicles various aspects of life in Antarctica and won one of the four awards given by the jury at the first edition of the festival.
Conquerors of Antarctica
Alejandro and Manuel Silva, brothers in the film "The Last Cabin Boy," many years later, at the world's southernmost lighthouse on Cape Horn, receive an urgent call from a ship sinking in the Drake Passage, causing nuclear contamination of the Frozen Continent. The accusations are against a Russian pirate who dominates fishing mafias in international waters, threatening the nature and future of the planet.
My intention as a Chilean filmmaker is to create a new audiovisual project, beginning as a twelve-part streaming audio series, followed by a graphic novel version, and ending as a feature film: "Conquistadores de la Antartica," as I believe it is a story of special relevance both to the interest of global audiences, who are tremendously reactive today to the planet's environmental issues, and to express, from our cinematic perspective, how we can contribute to such an important topic. The goal is to create a film project in Chile using the latest cutting-edge technologies, designed to provoke an emotional, political, historical, and social experience through an extreme confrontation with a journey into the immediate future, its imminent dangers and real-life circumstances, as well as the exploration of its great possibilities for success.
